We were lucky enough to find former shipmates in Chicago on other ships, and then voyage with shipmates from last season on Pride 2. The comaraderie among tall ship sailors is a result of shared self- imposed suffering across the fleet. These are not luxury yachts. The hours are long and the work physically demanding. The food, however, is good, as well as hearty. New shipmates are a solid team after a few short (or long) watches, and there are stories aplenty to share. The reward is the sound of the wind in the sails, the water over the hull and the creaking sounds of a wooden boat.
Owen Sound is a town of 20 some thousand people, located on the beautiful Georgian Bay, in Ontario, Canada. The weather was perfect, the crowds friendly and the town welcoming.
We're back, the tall ship adventure and the thermal layers are behind us for the season. We're ready to go sailing on Ondine in our comfortable home Florida waters.
